"In Your Dreams, Sonny" [added 02/26/06]
17" L x 17 3/4" H x 9 1/2" W
(including base)

It looks like a clear shot on goal for the young polo player. The defensive player, who is an old timer (you can tell by his vintage boots), is not about to let this happen, no matter what! He's doing the only thing he can and hopes he gets away with it. If he was in better position, he could possibly ride him off the ball. But that's what time does. You lose that step. Take it from me, I know!

Emergency Repair

"Emergency Repair "
11" L x 11" H x 7 1/2" W
Limited edition of 12

His near side partner mis-stepped and pulled down the heel of his hind shoe. Three new nails and some good solid clinches, by the show farrier, will have him ready when their next turn comes to pull the stone boat. These gentle giants have no quit in them!

"The Holding Pen"
12" L x 8 1/4" H x 10 1/2" W
Limited edition of 12

I've seen many holding pens at horse auctions. I have never witnessed this exact scene, but I'll bet anyone a nickel that it has happened sometime, somewhere. Horses will be horses when bunched together.

Awarded the Elka Scheman Award for Sculpture at the Kent Art Association President's Show 2005

Bogged Down

"Bogged Down"
25" L x 11 1/2" H x 9 1/2" W
Limited edition of 10

A bull calf bleats for his mother as an old cowboy starts to pull her from her muddy trap. The little mustang bears down and leans into his breast collar and the hemp rope used in those days is put to the test. The slick forked saddle creaks as the rope is pulled tightly against the angora chaps. The old-timer has done this many times and knows that he and his horse will get the job done.

"Hacking to the Opening Meet"
16" L x 12 1/2" H x 7 1/2" W
Limited edition of 30

This piece shows an elegant lady riding side saddle on an elegant mare. The mare trots forward with enthusiasm anticipating a day of sport. Without breaking stride, she cocks her head to look at a rabbit hiding behind a downed limb alongside the trail and continues on to meet the rest of the field.

Lazy Bitches

"Lazy Bitches"
13" L x 7 1/2" H x 13 1/2" W
Limited edition of 10

This whimsical bronze shows three fox hunting bitches lazing in the early Fall sun. Most field members of any hunt don't see the pack at rest. Most are used to seeing them more animated as they pick up the scent or honor a pack member who has. This piece shows the other side of the hound. They know how to take it easy.

"Morning Workout 1946"
16" L x 17 1/2" H x 10" W
Limited edition of 12

My father was an assistant trainer at the, now defunct, Jamaica Racetrack, in Jamaica, N.Y. Racehorse trainers from Kentucky would make this track their training location for the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons. Along with the horses they would also bring young black boys who would exercise them. The track became their world and their home. Many never returned to Kentucky.

Every Saturday, from the time I was 12 until I was 16, I would watch the thoroughbreds workout there. All of the exercise riders wore Levis with large rolled-up cuffs and western boots. The big thing was the old fashioned taxi cab driver cap. This cap was always worn backwards when galloping horses. These guys were my heroes and this piece is my tribute to them and my dad.

Awarded the Kent Art Association Award of Excellence;
Vilma Kurzer Award for Sculpture, 2004

Morning Turnout

"Morning Turnout"
8 1/2" L x 6" H x 4" W
Limited edition of 10

Every horseman can relate to this piece. Back when we used polo wraps for turnout and pull on bell boots, we almost knew, when we turned him loose and his tail went up and he lit out at a high, bouncy trot, at least one wrap and one bell boot would be off before his turnout time was over. The advent of velcro had almost made this a thing of the past.

"Mother's Love"
5 1/4" L x 6" H x 3 1/2" W

This piece was done at the request of my wife. It was her idea and concept. She wanted to show the love between a mare and foal that she saw when her favorite mare reacted with love and discipline when she was bred at our facility. This piece captures that feeling (it made my wife happy!).

Nippy Morning

"Nippy Morning "
14" L x 10 1/2" H x 12" W
Limited edition of 12

Although I have never seen this exact scenario, I was impressed by the guys and gals who ponied three and four polo ponies when I was shoeing in West Palm Beach one winter. This piece shows a slight glitch when one pony decides to bite another. The horse being bitten has all four hooves off the ground which adds a unique aspect to this bronze.

  • Awarded the Agop Agopoff Memorial Award at the Hudson Valley Art Association, 1994

The Wallower

"The Wallower "
8" L x 4" H x 4" W
Limited edition of 10

The majestic American bison. Show him a dusty, sandy or wet patch of prairie and he just has to roll (kind of like every white, grey or paint horse I owned!!). This piece shows the "buffalo" about to get up from such a roll. Even though he is still lying down, his power is evident.

"The Pickup Man "
12" L x 11 3/4" H x 12 1/2" W
Limited edition of 25

The eight second ride is over and now the skill of the pickup man and the boldness of his horse come into play. They move in and crowd the bronc, take the bucking rein, and the the saddle bronc rider jumps to the rump of the pickup horse and slides safely to the arena floor. A perfect ending to an exciting saddle bronc ride.

The Trainer

"The Trainer"

This piece was commissioned by the Westchester-Fairfield chapter of the P.H.A. to be presented to the trainer whose student wins the P.H.A. medal at the end of each year. The young student listens intently as her trainer explains what he expects her to do to perfect her performance. Her mount is a kindly, patient school horse who is beyond his peak, but can still "teach" a novice rider because of his years of experience.

Portrait of a Mustang Mare

"Portrait of a Mustang Mare"

This is a portrait from life. Since this mare was being boarded at my barn, when her owner commissioned this bronze, it was an easier task to take a break and walk to her stall to confirm any detail. She was dearly loved by her mistress both in the flesh and in bronze

This trophy was commissioned by Mitch Zuckerman and donated to the N.R.H.A. to be awarded yearly to the year-end high point youth reining horse rider.
